Currently in Haida Gwaii, this is a diary of my times spent and the people that I meet. To most it will be a surf update, to others a spiritual assessment, and definitely fun to all.

Happy as a clam

Happy little clam here eh? The wash ups have been around with the big swell and lots of food for the tables ending up on shore, scallops, clams, squid, everything. Not to mention some crazy swell. Waves this week were in the 12foot range and tommorrow is predicted to be in the 20 foot range. The buoy has been reading over 30 feet in the entrance and we're looking to have nearly half of that hit the beach. Better grow a pair before tomorrow!

Southeasterly gale of 78Knots blew my front window right in!

Why is the sky blue? ... and only for a few minutes...

Winter storms are here. I really don't understand the reason that we are so far north, but don't have -42 degree days. Why is it sooooo freaking windy, but only in winter? These seasonal things are amazing in their consistency. None the less they bring about wicked surf at least once a week for the last month with some just downright nasty big swell. It's definitely been overhead, and some would argue we've had double overhead twice. The schedule stays pretty much the same for me now with an early phone call from the beach as we have no webcams and a stream of men, women and children calling the house to find out the news. As we have no consistent swell around here, it's not like you can call for a tee time at saturday at 8:30. You really have to be in the spot at the right time and be looking well in advance to hit it right. I couldn't imagine if I had a real job.... Speaking of which, I'm now full on in my new house and got the surf shop up and running! It's been a great gig to wake up, have coffee, paint a room, build a shelf, go surf, saw some firewood, pile it and stoke the fire. It's been great with the electricity and running water and I've now got high speed internet (still no phone). So, hopefully I'll be able to update this a little more often as my stories increase. Take care.
